Kids of Summer is a fun, quality, affordable baseball program for children ages 6-14 located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. For nine years, experienced and energetic coaches have taught baseball to hundreds of NYC children through personal instruction, creative games and specific drills great for any ballplayer. Teamwork, effort and sportsmanship are core values of Kids of Summer and players are reminded of those principles daily. Kids of Summer believes that individualized attention is vital for any player wanting to improve their skills.
Beginning players learn the fundamentals of the game, with basic introductions on hitting, fielding, throwing, base-running and how to play “heads up.” More advanced players will continually improve with Kids of Summer’s unique and fun coaching methods which make every baseball drill fun while developing skills.
The camp’s beautiful three summer “home” fields are located in Riverside Park near 107th Street on Manhattan’s West Side. Each camp day starts with an emphasis on stretching and conditioning and then transitions into morning skill building sessions, where campers participate in a variety of fun drills aimed at making them better players. Each afternoon comes a highly anticipated game, where campers are broken down into divisions and teams and compete for the weekly championship!
Camp Director Mike Handell, along with a team of experienced coaches, teaches campers in small ageand skill-appropriate groups. The camp has grown in size in recent years because of the knowledge, energy and personality of the great staff who understand and nurture the campers’ love of sports.
Players form special bonds with their coaches and fellow teammates that last for years to come. Daily and weekly awards are given to the most improved player, MVP and best sportsmanship and annual field trips to professional baseball games add to the summer experience.Look out for a brand new basketball camp as well for the summer of 2010, where players will participate in fun workouts, drills and tons of games in order to improve their shooting, ball-handling, passing and footwork. The camp is structured in 11 single week sessions providing flexibility around hectic summer schedules.
Don’t let the name fool you—Kids of Summer operates year-round both indoors and outdoors, with indoor gym locations in case of poor weather. Campers from all over the city enjoy the benefits of instruction thanks to the available transportation to and from field locations.
