It’s the still the No. 1 youth sport in NYC. It just is. And so, New York Family Sports has provided you with the ultimate rundown to all of the city’s most respected programs. Read below and find the one that works for you!

92nd St Y

From 92Y Dribblers and Beginning Lessons, to competitive AAU and traveling teams, the 92nd St Y runs a versatile program that caters to all age groups and skill levels. Sessions are in progress now and run throughout the winter. Want to hone in on fundamentals? 12-17yr olds focus on sharpening offensive and defensive skills and learning cutting-edge basketball-specific conditioning exercises in Basketball Boot Camp. Asphalt Green

Asphalt Green offers a comprehensive basketball program for youth participants. Dedicated to total player development, Asphalt Green basketball has a program for all ages and abilities. Boys and girls of all ages can experience basketball in a variety of ways. Academy programs, travel teams, camps and private training are all available. Basketball City

Basketball City provides NY’s most comprehensive youth instructional basketball program. The Basketball City Youth Development League (YDL) focuses on teaching the fundamentals of the game in a fun and competitive environment. The YDL is dedicated to small group instruction and real full-court game situations. Participants will be divided into groups based on age and skill level. They will receive the most professional experience from Basketball City staff, which includes former and current NCAA Division I and professional players as well as high school and college coaches.

Individual players are welcome to join our youth basketball classes. Classes consist of skill-based clinics and modified games emphasizing the fundamentals of basketball. The Field House provides coaches, game balls, T-shirts and end of season medals for all participants. Players looking for more intensified instruction should check out BlueStreak. Five-Star Basketball and BlueStreak Sports Training have joined forces to create the Five-Star BlueStreak Basketball Academy. Designed to improve athletic conditioning and fundamental basketball skills in players of all levels, Academy programming combines the legendary on-court teaching experience of Five-Star Basketball with the advanced physical conditioning programs at Chelsea Piers BlueStreak.

Crossover Sports Academy

Teen Night Basketball on Friday nights is all the buzz downtown! Through December 18, city ballers ages 12-16 meet to test their skills against one another on the court. But don’t be fooled, Crossover is not about winning and losing. It’s about creating an opportunity for kids to learn and/or develop skills while they play. By building self-esteem through sports and promoting principles of sportsmanship, character and integrity, Crossover students become well-rounded players and teammates.

The Downtown Community Center’s Winter Instructional League commences on November 6 and runs through March 26, 2010; there are seven different singlesex divisions broken down by class years.

The DCC will also be putting on a 12-week advanced basketball skills clinic for six divisions starting November 14.

Celebrating its 15th year, Dribbl continues to play a critical role in exposing basketball to the youth of NYC. Fastbreak NYC

This winter, Fastbreak is excited to announce their new partnership with the New York Knicks in a nine-session clinic. Players who take advantage of this unique opportunity will be instructed by dedicated coaches and will be provided a chance to meet with Knicks current and former players. In addition to clinics, Fastbreak offers group and one-onone training, as well as opportunities to play for its AAU squad. With gym locations all over Manhattan, Fastbreak is able to serve hundreds of families and provide youth with a rewarding training experience. Greenwich Village Girls Basketball League

This unique league combines volunteer coaching, mentorship opportunities, and strong community and parental support with a well-run basketball league for 9-15-year-old girls. The League emphasizes fun, teamwork and a chance for everyone to play. Winning is NOT the most important goal. Practices are on Friday nights and games take place Saturday mornings beginning November 14 and running through March 18. Many girls look forward to experiencing clinics run by the Columbia Women’s Basketball Team and getting to play during halftime of one of the Columbia women’s games.

JCC in Manhattan

When school lets out, the basketball courts at the JCC in Manhattan come alive with classes, clinics and a number of scrimmages.
